Sarah Coburn is an Oklahoma State alumna and an internationally known opera singer. In 2014 Coburn performed at "A Night of Orange and Black", a concert that launched the campaign to build what would be known as the McKnight Center for the Performing Arts at Oklahoma State University. Coburn recently returned to OSU to perform at the McKnight Center, and to teach masterclasses at the Greenwood School of Music. Since the mid-1900s, the NCAA has described college sports as following an “amateurism” model that revolved around athletes being compensated primarily through scholarships, as opposed to salaries or through endorsement deals. In the summer of 2021, however, everything changed. The Alston Supreme Court decision ruled that the NCAA’s caps on academic aid is a violation of antitrust law.
